Welcome to Pregnancy Safe. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use the Pregnancy Safe mobile application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information with care, especially given the sensitive nature of pregnancy-related health data.

Information We Collect
Information you provide during onboarding
- Your first name (optional)
- Your age
- Your pregnancy status (expecting, breastfeeding, or planning)
- Your trimester (if applicable)
- Whether this is your first pregnancy
- Your focus areas and dietary preferences
This information is stored locally on your device using secure device storage. It is not linked to any personally identifiable account and is not transmitted to our servers in a form that identifies you personally.
Scan and chat activity
- Barcodes you scan are sent to third-party product databases to retrieve ingredient data.
- Ingredient lists and your profile context are sent to our AI analysis backend to generate safety results.
- Messages you send to Mama AI are processed by our backend to generate responses. These messages are not permanently stored by us.
Anonymous authentication data
We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to identify your app session. No email address, phone number, or account credentials are required or collected. An anonymous user ID is generated automatically by Firebase and is used solely for security purposes such as rate limiting.
Usage data
We may collect non-identifiable usage data such as app crashes and error logs to improve performance. This data does not include your health profile or message content.
How We Use Your Information
- To personalise safety analysis results based on your pregnancy stage and preferences.
- To provide AI-powered responses through the Mama AI chat feature.
- To look up product ingredient data from third-party databases.
- To prevent abuse of our backend services using anonymous session identifiers.
- To improve App performance and fix technical issues.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with advertisers or marketing companies.
AI Data Processing & Your Consent
Pregnancy Safe uses an AI-powered backend to generate product safety analyses and to power the Mama AI chat feature. Before these features are activated, the App explicitly asks for your permission during onboarding. You may withdraw or re-grant consent at any time in Profile → AI & Privacy.
What data is sent to the AI service
- Your first name (if provided during onboarding), used to personalise AI responses.
- Product names, brands, categories, ingredient lists, and allergen labels retrieved from scanned barcodes.
- Ingredient text captured by your device camera (on-device OCR output).
- Messages you send to the Mama AI chat assistant.
- Your pregnancy profile context — pregnancy stage, trimester, whether this is your first pregnancy, focus areas, and dietary preferences — used to personalise AI responses.
Who receives the data
The data listed above is sent to our AI safety backend, which is hosted on Cloudflare Workers infrastructure. The backend uses Cloudflare Workers AI (and, depending on configuration, other AI model providers such as Google Gemini or OpenRouter) to generate safety results and chat answers. Each provider is governed by its own privacy policy:
How the data is used
- Solely to produce the safety analysis result or chat answer that is displayed to you in the App.
- All requests are encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and authenticated with Firebase App Check tokens to prevent unauthorised access.
- Message and ingredient content is not permanently stored by us on the backend.
If you decline AI consent
If you decline or later withdraw AI consent, no personal data will be sent to any AI service. Barcode product lookups (using open product databases) will continue to work, but AI safety analysis and the Mama AI chat assistant will be disabled until consent is re-granted.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how they handle data.
- Google Firebase (Firebase Auth, Firebase App Check) — Used for anonymous authentication and to protect our backend API from abuse. Firebase Privacy Policy
- Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Products Facts — Open-source product databases used to retrieve ingredient lists from scanned barcodes. Product barcodes are sent to these services over HTTPS. Open Food Facts Privacy
- Go-UPC — A supplementary product lookup service used to find product data when other sources do not return results.
- Cloudflare Workers (our AI backend) — Our AI safety analysis and Mama AI chat run on a backend hosted on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Requests are authenticated using Firebase tokens and processed without permanently storing your message content. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
Data Storage and Retention
Your onboarding profile, scan history, and saved products are stored locally on your device using device-level storage. This data is not uploaded to our servers and is deleted when you uninstall the App.
We do not maintain a server-side user database. Your anonymous Firebase session ID may be retained by Firebase in accordance with their data retention policies.
Children's Privacy
The App is designed for use by adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at tithipal699@gmail.com and we will take steps to delete such information.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, most traditional data rights requests do not apply. However, you can:
- Delete all locally stored data by uninstalling the App.
- Contact us to request deletion of any Firebase anonymous session data associated with your session.

Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. All communication between the App and our backend is encrypted using HTTPS. Our AI backend requires a valid Firebase App Check token on every request to prevent unauthorised access.

Pregnancy Safe is an informational tool only. The safety analyses and AI responses provided by the App are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult your doctor, obstetrician, or midwife before making any health-related decisions during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
